History & Use

The M79 grenade launcher — affectionately known as the "blooper" or "thumper" — was the U.S. military's first dedicated 40mm grenade launcher, seeing widespread use throughout the Vietnam War from 1961 onward. The dedicated grenadier vest was designed to carry the large, bulky 40mm rounds that the M79 required, keeping ammunition accessible while the grenadier moved through jungle terrain. This vest is an essential detail piece for Vietnam War custom figure builds and collectors recreating the look of the U.S. Army's grenadier specialist role.
