History & Military Use
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) constructed from everyday containers became one of the defining threats of the counterinsurgency campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. Insurgents used readily available materials — including plastic jugs, gas canisters, and pressure cookers — to construct roadside bombs that caused the majority of coalition casualties in both conflicts. The "milk jug" IED, often packed with homemade explosives and a simple detonating circuit, became a common design documented by EOD units. Coalition forces developed extensive countermeasures including route clearance teams, mine-resistant vehicles, electronic jamming, and IED defeat programs in direct response to the proliferation of these devices throughout the 2000s and 2010s.
3D printed products may require minor post-processing. Support remnants, layer lines, or slight surface variations are normal and can be cleaned up with a hobby knife, needle files, or light sanding. Final appearance may vary slightly depending on printer settings and material used.
