History & Military Use

The MG3 is a post-World War II West German general-purpose machine gun derived directly from the legendary MG42, one of the most effective machine guns in history. Chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO rather than the original 7.92×57mm Mauser, the MG3 was adopted by the Bundeswehr in 1968 and has been exported to over 30 countries. Its distinctive high cyclic rate of fire — up to 1,300 rounds per minute — gives it a unique sound unlike any other NATO machine gun. The MG3 serves in vehicle-mounted, tripod, and bipod configurations and remains in service with Germany, Turkey, Italy, Pakistan, and many other nations decades after its introduction.
