History & Military Use
The M1919 Browning is an air-cooled, belt-fed .30 caliber medium machine gun designed by John Browning and adopted by the US military in 1919 as a lighter successor to the water-cooled M1917. It served as the standard American medium machine gun through World War II, Korea, and into Vietnam, mounted on vehicles, aircraft, boats, and in fixed defensive positions as well as infantry bipod configurations. The M1919A4 and A6 variants were the most widely produced, seeing action with US Army and Marine Corps units across every theater of WWII. It was also supplied to dozens of allied nations under Lend-Lease and remained in service internationally well into the 1980s.
