History & Military Use

The M18 smoke grenade is a colored smoke signaling and screening grenade that has been a standard item in the US military inventory since World War II. Available in red, green, yellow, and violet, the M18 burns for 50–90 seconds and produces a dense cloud of brightly colored smoke used for signaling aircraft, marking landing zones and casualty collection points, and providing limited visual concealment. It saw extensive use in Vietnam as a primary means of communication between ground troops and air support. Unlike fragmentation grenades, the M18 produces no significant blast or fragmentation — its pyrotechnic mixture generates smoke through a chemical reaction with no explosive charge, making it one of the most universally carried items in the infantryman's kit.

3D printed products may require minor post-processing. Support remnants, layer lines, or slight surface variations are normal and can be cleaned up with a hobby knife, needle files, or light sanding. Final appearance may vary slightly depending on printer settings and material used.
