History & Military Use

The suppressed Remington 700 configuration is widely used by military and law enforcement sniper teams that require reduced acoustic signature during precision engagements. Suppressors on precision bolt-action rifles primarily serve to protect the shooter's hearing, reduce muzzle blast for target observation and refire, and complicate acoustic localization of the firing position. The US Army's M24 SWS program explored suppressed configurations for special operations use, and suppressed Remington 700 variants are standard issue for numerous police department SWAT teams and FBI SWAT units.
