History & Military Use

The China Lake pump-action grenade launcher was developed in the late 1960s at the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, California. Created as a field-expedient multi-shot grenade system, it gave operators the ability to fire multiple 40mm grenades in rapid succession — a major advantage over the single-shot M79. It saw extensive use by Navy SEALs and other special operations forces during the Vietnam War, prized for its firepower in ambushes and close jungle engagements. Though only produced in small numbers, the China Lake became legendary among special operations communities and remains one of the most recognized and sought-after Vietnam-era weapons in military history.
