History & Military Use
The Steyr AUG (Armee Universal Gewehr — Army Universal Rifle) is an Austrian bullpup assault rifle designed in the late 1960s and adopted by the Austrian Army in 1977, making it one of the first widely successful bullpup military rifles. Its innovative modular design allows quick barrel changes and reconfiguration into carbine, assault rifle, or light support weapon roles. The AUG A3 M1 variant introduced a Picatinny rail system for modern optics and accessories, bringing the classic platform up to contemporary operational standards. The AUG has been adopted by the armed forces of Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Luxembourg, and many others, and has seen combat in numerous conflicts worldwide.
