History & Military Use

The entrenching tool and its carrier have been part of the American infantryman's kit since World War I. The ALICE E-Tool pouch holds the tri-fold entrenching tool — a compact folding shovel used for digging fighting positions, clearing debris, and in a pinch, close-quarters combat. Worn on the ALICE belt or pack, the E-Tool pouch is a ubiquitous detail on any US Army or Marine Corps combat figure from Vietnam through to the early GWOT era.
